New Ross
New Ross is Ireland's only inland port, some 32 km from the sea on the River Barrow. In a major capital dredging project, land reclamation, river realignment, construction of breakwaters and river-deepening were undertaken by Dutch Dredging. The river was realigned with the Cutter Dredger 'Atlas'. The material, sand, clay, silt and shells was used for land reclamation. The river and quays were at the same time deepened by the Backhoe-pontoon 'Obelix', which also placed river groynes and new submerged pipelines.
